Danelaw is a Viking action role-playing game set in Northumbria in 866, the year the Great Heathen Army took Eoferwic (York). The player starts as the lowest member of a Danish war-band and, over a prologue and four acts, rises to become king in the north. Combat is directional and stamina-based, with melee, archery and fighting on horseback. Seven war-bands have named war-leaders and champions who remember what the player did to them; a beaten foe can be killed, spared, ransomed or sworn in, and some return later under new names. The game spans fifteen locations between Eoferwic and the Roman Wall, with seasons and weather that follow the year. After the story the player runs a steading, judges disputes and takes tribute. It supports online co-op for up to four players.
